Inspired by the mythological figure of Kassandra, the Trojan seer whose predictions were accurate but not believed, our performance addresses contemporary issues such as gender inequality and willful ignorance.

Visual arts, music, sculpture, theatre, ritual and installation are intertwined within an interdisciplinary collective work.

The entire piece is centred around the literal and metaphorical idea of a woman’s body and voice, originating from the central figure of Kassandra , her movements, actions, and singing. Therefore every object, costume, and installation is connected to the body of the performer, serving as a body-controlled musical instrument that accompanies the voices in the black void.

This idea is symbolically materialised through the use of porcelain – a unique, precious, fragile but resistant material that dialogues, through its rich sound potential, with the human voice.

The three composers (Huihui Cheng, Anna Korsun and Katharina Roth) bring their diverse artistic approaches to working with voice, space, objects, and electronics into the project and thus enable three different perspectives on the multi-layered personality of Kassandra.

Inspiriert von der mythologischen Seherin, deren Prophezeiungen zwar zutreffen, aber unbeachtet bleiben, befasst sich “Kassandra” mit aktuellen Themen wie Gendergerechtigkeit und bewusster Ignoranz gegenüber drohenden Katastrophen.

Bildende Kunst, Installation, Ritual, Musik, Gesang und Performance verschränken sich zu einer interdisziplinären Performance.

Im Zentrum des Stücks stehen Körper und Stimme einer Frau, ihre konkrete Präsenz und die auf sie gerichteten Projektionen. Objekte, Kostüme und Bühnen-Installation sind mit den Performerinnen verbunden und dienen als körpergesteuerte Klangquellen, welche die Stimmen in der dunklen Leere begleiten und jede ihrer Bewegungen auf vielfältige Weise wahrnehmbar machen.

Die Ambivalenz der Titelfigur materialisiert sich symbolisch in der Verwendung von Porzellan – ein kostbares, zerbrechliches, aber zugleich widerstandsfähiges Material, das mit seinem reichen Klangpotential in einen Dialog mit der menschlichen Stimme tritt.

Die drei Komponistinnen (Huihui Cheng, Anna Korsun und Katharina Roth) bringen ihre unterschiedlichen künstlerischen Ansätze in der Arbeit mit Stimme, Raum, Objekten und Elektronik in das Projekt ein und ermöglichen so drei verschiedene Perspektiven auf die vielschichtige Persönlichkeit von Kassandra.
